STUDY MICROSCOPE

Educational content :

  • Use and analysis of microscope
  • Measurement of microscopic objects
  • Magnification measurement
  • Characterization of a microscope lens

This microscope is a standard model, which has been equipped and transformed for studying its optical characteristics.

All the dimension parameters can be measured and changed. The study and the understanding of the microscope principle are based on the direct experiment of a real model.

A camera lucida device can be added on the eyepiece which permits the observation at the same time of the image of a sheet of paper placed on the table, and the image given by a microscope for measuring the magnifications.

DIGITAL CAMERA STUDY AND CHARACTERIZATION

Educational content :

  • Optical quality
  • angle of field
  • depth of field
  • autofocus
  • digital images and pictures

Now digital cameras are very common; they are concentrated of very sharp optical technologies and principles.

The experiment consists in studying simple optical principle of the camera. Then its optical caracteristics as well as its performances can be found out

MTF STUDY

Educational content :

  • optical quality criterion
  • modulation Transfer Function
  • resolution power

The MTF  (Modulation Transfer Function) is designed to quantize the capacity of an optical system to give the details. The method consists in adding smaller and smaller test charts to a system and to quantize the resulting contrast. The result is a transfer function typical of the system.

The kit uses 2 measurement methods: one with a system of sinusoidal test charts and a second with Fourier’s method : The system receives an impulse containing all the frequencies (a very thin slit in our case). The Fourier Transform of the answer is the transfer function of the system.

BASIC LASER TRIANGULATION

Educational content :

  • Angular swerving
  • triangulation
  • telemetry
  • focal length

Coupled to a CCD detector C5510 or to an oVisio detector C5010, the principle of this experiment is to make a laser plane beam reflect on an object with a small angle and therefore measures the angular swerving corresponding to a distance variation. It is the principle of telemetry by laser triangulation.
